NEWS

As we enter July 2008 our half year report would read “excellent start with 9 winners but don’t take your eye of the ball”. We have been commended by many respected professionals with the way we place our horses. Not only have we been to Ireland to land the first English trained winner at Dundalk with Electric Warrior we have also raided down South with Baby Strange and just failed to land the Carlisle Bell for the 2nd year running with Bold Marc. Speedy Senorita was superbly placed to land a 3 timer and we aint seen our 2 x 2 year olds out yet. We have also seen the down side losing our brilliant 3 year old Pelican Prince with a freak accident.

There is a saying that the harder you work the luckier you get. Well at the start of April I was wondering about the saying. However by the 1/8/2006 we had had 12 winners landing some big touches with hopefully more to come. We have strengthened the team and the future looks bright. The double at Pontefract was a club first with Electric Warrior and Precocious Star. Then landing our own sponsored race at Haydock with the filly was fantastic. The trip to Royal Ascot was a great day out and I could go on and on. The success of the club is attracting new people all the time and we have installed a MARC Champion trainer title which is causing friendly rivalry between our trainers. The score currently stands at 6 all.

And they're off...

It has taken the season a while to get going but 4 winners and numerous placing has rewarded everyones hard work. The pleasing element is that we have managed to land a touch on 3 of those winners with a few close shaves with Mambo Sun. The quality of horse and owner has improved and with a trip to Royal Ascot on the cards with a live chance in the shape of Baby Strange the future looks bright.

The new season is almost here

With the new season almost upon us we are hoping all our hard work will pay of. We have strengthened our ties with both Paul and Karl and start the season with 6 x 2 year olds. It is a big increase in our horse power and sends a message that the club is here to stay and with a fantastically loyal ownership base will be going all out for 2006 glory. Considering the increase in horseflesh we have only a few shares available. Word of mouth is selling the club but we are always on the look out for informed individuals to put their hat in the ring with us. If that is you give me a ring.

Looking back over 2005

Looking back over 2005 I have to say we have been dogged with misfortune. However that is the game we’re in and you learn to be resilient. We know things will turn in our favour and over the last 2 months we have taken stock and started to plan for 2006. Racing is an expensive game and you have to learn when to cut ties when you have a disappointing horse. We certainly hung onto Telegram Sam too long and there is an art to knowing when to let go. Probably the biggest positive over the last 3 months has been our blossoming relationship we enjoy with Paul Blockley. He has impressed us with everything he has done and will continue to strengthen our ties with him.

Stop start season

It has been a stop start season so far. Our 2 year olds have both needed time but both are quality individuals. Bold Marc has kept the flag flying running some crackers. He continues to come up against some smart types and he really does deserve a change of luck. Our season is geared to an Autumn campaign. Thunderwing who had his comeback ride at York will go for all the good races granted he gets his soft ground.

New season all change

As with all good relationships then it is important to know when to go separate ways. Our relationship with Richard was a little strained recently and a parting was on the cards for a while. We have moved Riska King to Jimmy Moffatt’s, Cartmel yard. Telegram Sam has been moved to Paul Blockley. I’m sure that this will turn out to be positive move for our long term future.

On the runners front most of our stars have already posted some encouraging runs bagging some placings prize money but missing out on that elusive win. Thunderwing, Riska King, Bold Marc and Mr Lewin have all gone close and all look more than capable of picking up decent races for us in the near future.

We have just bought a 2 year old by Superior Premium to be trained by Paul Blockley. We have shares available and invite interested parties to contact the office.

The main news is the retirement of Market Avenue

A recent injury on the gallops has hastened her trip to the paddocks. In 2003 she really was a superstar winning 4 races and without doubt put the club on the map. The frustrating thing is that we feel she never fully realised her potential. Stiil there are not many mares who win 6 races in their career and she will be a valuable brood mare. The owners of the mare are very enthusiastic to breed with her and will be our first move in the blood stock market.

The Winter has been a quiet time for the club with only Trickstep keeping the colours in the spotlight. Unfortunately he has been quite disappointing and the jury is still out as to where we go with him.

We are looking forward to our association with Gay Kelleway and Ginger McCain this year and they are both real characters in their own right. Both know how to train winners and we are confident that winners from those sources will soon add to the clubs tally.

We are holding our first club night to be held at the Parsonage Hotel in York and it will be a celebration of the success of the club so far.

It’s been an action packed month for the club.

The undoubted highlight was the performance of THUNDERWING at Ayr. Although only 4 went to post there were some highly thought of individuals in the line up. We were very impressed with his style of victory and he definitely deserved his chance in the listed race he contested at Bordeaux on the 13th. He never travelled evenly and we don’t know if the combination of a right handed track and the long journey may have taken the edge of him. RISKA KING ran a cracker to win at Wolverhampton. That was his second win of the season and he is as tough as they come. His all weather mark gives us a real competitive chance of winning again. We will continue to campaign him and while he is in good form are full of hope when things go his way he can pick up another prize for us. After a series of frustrating efforts MARKET AVENUE finally came good winning at Newcastle. The form has been boosted since and we feel she was unlucky not to follow up at Chester when her saddle slipped. The mare is in great form and can be competitive in the near future. Mr Lewin is a strapping individual who ran with great credit at Wolverhampton. He has never been better and he should be due to break his duck soon. BOLD MARC returned to action at Beverley after being gelded. He really did look big and well and ran a massive race. He was beaten just over 2 lengths in finishing 4 th. To put his performance into context the winner last time finished 3 rd to the horse who is now favourite for the 2,000 guineas. We had to give 4 lbs to this winner and the thought is that BOLD MARC would definitely come on for this run. His 6 th in a competitive race at York was meritorious. He was drawn low and the winner and placed horses were drawn high. Telegram Sam ran a highly creditable race on his debut at York. He is a big baby and we will take it one step at a time with him.

On the bloodstock side of the business we have just purchased an ex Irish colt called TRICKSHOT. The horse will be trained by Ian Semple who does really well with his Irish imports. This is our first venture with Ian it certainly started with a bang when the colt shocked everyone when winning a claimer at Ayr at 16/1 on his first start. He is so lazy at home we thought he would need the run. However he beat horses rated higher than him and we will try to find a race before he is reassessed. Also Karl has just purchased Bold Marc’s half brother at the Doncaster Sales. We are delighted to continue our association with the sire Bold Fact. He is reported to be a strong individual who will be an early sort. Certainly one to be excited about. Again refer to our horses for sale page.

On the information side of the business we are actively looking for individuals who would want to participate in ‘club gamble’s’. Although information on club horses is kept to club members we are privy to some strong insider ‘touches’ which for a fee will be shared with genuine individuals.
